The Norwegian-developed game, based on Tove Jansson’s universe from Moominvalley, will be launched for Nintendo Switch and Steam on the same day, while a mobile launch is planned for 2024.
After Nintendo included the Norwegian game in its presentation of upcoming releases for the next six months, the company behind it, Hyper Games, has experienced a great deal of interest.
«It’s very exciting. It’s not every day that Norwegian games get to be there, if it has ever happened. There’s always a risk of fading into the background as a small developer, but we are very happy with the attention we have received so far,» says Hyper Games CEO Are Sundnes to the Gamer website.
The company has been working on «Snusmumrikken: Melodien i Mummidalen» for four years and received, among other things, the largest single grant the Norwegian Film Institute has ever given to a game in 2021 – five million Norwegian kroner.
«Instead of violence and survival mechanisms, it offers large amounts of exploration, atmosphere, puzzles, and storytelling,» said the NFI consultant.
